Steve Smith and David Warner’s participation confirmed, Australian cricketers will be seen playing in IPL 2019, Cricket Australia have confirmed the participation of stellar Australia duo of Steve Smith and David Warner for the 12th season of the Indian Premier League.
Both Smith and Warner are nearing the completion of their one-year ban following the sandpaper gate incident in South Africa and would be eligible to feature for Australia at the World Cup 2019. Australia’s national selectors chief Trevor Hohns confirmed that Smith and Warner’s suspension will finish on March 28.
Smith and Warner were barred from competing in the IPL last year due to their involvement in the ball tampering scandal at Johannesburg. With the duo banned for 12 months by Cricket Australia, IPL authorities too handed down the punishment to the leading members of respective squads – Smith and Warner as captains of Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
While there is a lot of advocating being done regarding them being included in the squad for the world event, both the cricketers would be wanting to come back on the back of runs and not reputation. Heinrich Klaasen came in as replacement for Smith in the Rajasthan Royals squad while SRH replaced Warner with Alex Hales.
