Ravichandran Ashwin says team lost matches in Powerplay overs, Ravichandran Ashwin after KXIP’s exit from IPL 2019. They have been their team’s premier performers but KL Rahul and Chris Gayle’s batting in the Powerplay overs had been one of the “massive problems”, KXIP captain Ravichandran Ashwin said after team’s ouster from IPL.

Rahul has scored 522 runs in 13 games with a strike-rate of shade under 130 and six scores of above 50 [one century and five 50s]. Gayle has scored 462 runs in 12 game with a strike-rate of 152 plus and top score of 99. For the most part of the season. Kings XI’s top-order did the job for them. But with both Gayle and Rahul flopping together in a crucial, it spelled doom for the outfit.

KXIP tend to rely heavily on their top two as their middle order lacks experience. The side was more or less knocked out of the tournament after this loss and the skipper suggested to fix the chunks in their armour before the next season. Talking about overseas bowlers, he said, “When you have overseas seamers and bowlers, you definitely bank on them.”

Asked if Andrew Tye’s ineffectiveness affected the team, Ashwin replied, “when you have your overseas seamers and bowlers, you definitely bank on them, but like I said Powerplay has been one of our massive problems. Most games that we won is because through the middle overs or sometimes in the death overs where you had some incredible performances by (Mohd) Shami or Sam (Curran), something like that.”
